What is Garcinia Cambogia?
A fruit belonging to the citrus family that has been found to grown in Southeast Asia; The extract from its rind, HCA (hydroxycitric acid), has been historically been in use for cooking, but now also for weight loss.
What does it do?
Many animal and human based studies including Garcinia cambogia have been conducted. And it has always been shown to affect two of the major aspects in a weight loss case:
• Fat Reduction: It is known to block the activity of fat-producing enzyme Citrate lyase. Thus, making it a tough job for the body to accumulate fat.
• Cravings: It increases levels of hormone Serotonin in the brain. This, theoretically, can lead to reduced appetite and fewer cravings.
Studies in humans point that Garcinia cambogia can cause upto 1 kg of weight loss with regular usage over couple of weeks, on average.
Other health benefits
Although it has been studied majorly as a weight loss supplement, garcinia may have other health benefits as well. Through some studies, it has been suggested that it can help in reducing the belly fat, decreases the LDL cholesterol levels and improves several risk factors for heart disease.
There has been evidence that supplementing with this herb can enhance fat metabolism thus increasing fat burn. This has been supported by both mice and human studies.
Another claim that has been made with regard to this magical herb is that it enhances athletic performance. Garcinia cambogia may increase the amount of time it takes to reach exhaustion during exercise, as per studies.

Dosage
You can find garcinia cambogia in most health supplements, sometimes also included as an ingredient in snack bars. The typical doses for Garcinia cambogia are no more than 250 to 1000 mg per day.
